Animals of the Sunderbans - Black Kite

I became very familiar with the next animal during a 6 week stay in Kolkata, India. It was amazing to see such large birds soaring over the city. I was delighted to discover they also inhabit the Sunderbans.

The Black Kite is a masterful flyer and spends most the time riding the thermals, not unlike a toy kite. It has become very adapt to city living, feeding off household refuse as well as the carcasses of dead animals and in poorer areas, even dead people.
